It’s finally here!! Yes that cooler weather that us Phoenicians literally start praying for around the end of September, but with the crisp weather comes a not so welcome side effect – uncomfortable dryness of the face, hands and feet. For those who suffer with rosacea and eczema the cooler weather, combined with heaters cranking can really cause a bad flare-up!
We are all used to switching out our wardrobes for the seasons – it is also necessary to do that with your skin care products and practices! See what you can do to keep your skin healthy through the winter months!
- Get a professional consultation: There are so many products out there it is hard to determine what is going to work for you and it can be an expensive trial and error process. An experienced aesthetician can analyze your skin, troubleshoot your current regimen and products and direct you towards those products that will give you the results you want.
- Moisturize, moisturize and moisturize some more: Changes in the weather may necessitate a change in your moisturizer. Something a little thicker or oil based may work better but needs to be balanced with the possibility of clogging your pores. Again, this is where a skin care consultation can help figure out what will work best.
- Slather on the sunscreen: Just because you won’t be lounging by the pool doesn’t mean you can pack away the sunscreen! Continue using a broad-spectrum sun screen every day, all year long!
- Don’t forget those hands and feet: Because your hands have fewer oil glands and thinner skin they easily get dry & itchy which leads to cracking. Consistently use a heavy lotion and wear gloves when you go outside. At night it may be a good idea to use a thicker ointment type lotion on both your hands and feet and then sleep in gloves and socks to hold the moisture in and repair that skin. iS CLINICAL makes an excellent new product SHEALD RECOVERY BALM that can protect and repair your skin like nothing else.
- Dig out that humidifier: That’s right that old humidifier isn’t just for when you are sick, it can help to balance out the drying effects of running your household heater.
- Water, water, water: I feel like I include this in every post – but there really is nothing better you can do for your health and your skin!
