Glow through the Seasons: Discover the Best Fall and Winter Skin Treatments!

Now that the scorching Arizona sun is finally taking a breather, it's the perfect time for some serious skin TLC. We get it – summer wreaks havoc on your skin with all the chlorine, sunscreen, and non-stop sweating.

If you want to dive into a series of treatments or revamp your skin, fall and winter are where the magic happens. During this time of year, our favorite treatments include chemical peels, Genius radio frequency microneedling, Co2 laser skin resurfacing, IPL photo facials (aka intense-pulsed light therapy) and laser hair removal.

Why, you ask? Well, during this time of year, the weather is cooler, making the healing process post-treatment much more comfortable. Additionally, during the healing process, the risk of sun damage increases, heightening the chances of unwanted pigmentation. This situation is far from ideal, especially considering these treatments aim to eliminate pigmentation irregularities in the first place.

Cooler months are perfect for these treatments as they offer a break from busy summer schedules filled with outdoor activities. This downtime allows your skin to heal without the intense UV rays, ensuring a smooth recovery and giving you the relaxation, you deserve.

Chemical Peels

At Physician Skin Solutions, we offer several types of chemical peels to provide options for various skin concerns and types. This means some chemical peels are relatively gentle, and others can be more potent if tolerable.

At our office, the Apeele chemical peel is the most commonly performed. We offer different strengths—light, medium, and forte—customized to your skin’s needs. It’s safe for all skin types and helps to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and minor facial scarring.

Genius RF Microneedling

Suppose you want to improve skin elasticity and firmness. In that case the Genius RF Microneedling is perfect and usually done in a series of three. This laser treatment delivers radiofrequency energy through pip-point microneedles.

The treatment alerts the body’s natural wound-healing response, which prompts collagen production. Usually done in a series of three, the treatment helps to improve the appearance of wrinkles, scarring, and skin laxity.

Co2 Laser Resurfacing

If you’re looking for total skin rejuvenation, then the Co2 laser resurfacing might be what you need. Out of all the treatments we’ve discussed, this treatment may remain at the top of our list to get done during the cooler months.

This treatment works by gently removing part or all the top layer of skin, working as an ablative laser. This powerhouse treatment does it all – fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, scars, you name it!

We’ve got options like ActiveFX, MaxFX, DeepFX, and the grand finale, TotalFX, catering to all your skin concerns in one go. This treatment is the gold star approach of anti-aging treatment in one session.

IPL Photofacial

Now, if you are looking for that post-summer sun damage cleanup, then the IPL photofacial will be the perfect fall and winter laser treatment for you. This treatment targets pigment irregularities such as sun damage, and it can treat the face, neck, chest, legs, arms, and basically everywhere.

Usually done in a series, you cannot have any tan when getting this treatment because the light targets pigment. Therefore, those with a tan and/ or melasma are not good candidates for this treatment and can actually result in more pigment and darkening melasma. However, these candidates should look at our Hollywood Spectra laser for melasma or a LaseMD Ultra, which works to target sun damage but can be used when patients’ skin is tan.

Laser Hair Removal

Stepping away from facial treatments, the fall and winter months are prime time for laser hair removal. We can treat the face, neck, legs and more. During these months, your skin is not as likely to be tan. Our laser targets melanin, the pigment responsible for skin tone and hair color.

When the skin is tan, it increases the melanin in the skin, making it challenging for the laser to differentiate between hair and skin. Embracing the cooler months ensures a more effective and safe hair removal experience. By summertime, you’re ready to show off your beautifully smooth skin.

All these treatments have a few things in common: they will likely leave your skin somewhat red and sensitive, and you will need to stay away from the sun post-treatment. It’s almost like fall and winter are like the universe’s way of saying, “Hey, it’s makeover time!”
