How Long Does a Chemical Peel Take?

As people look for noninvasive and effective ways to brighten and resurface their skin, chemical peels become more and more popular. These treatments peel away dull skin to lift away hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, and uneven skin tone, as well as many other skin concerns.

How Does a Chemical Peel Work?

A chemical peel uses acids applied to the skin to remove the outer layers of dead skin cells. These cells make the skin look uneven and dull. They also cannot absorb your skincare products well, making them less effective. A chemical peel breaks down these dead skin cells so they can be lifted away.

With the dull, lifeless skin gone, brighter and smoother skin can rise to the surface. This chemical exfoliation has the same effect as other forms of exfoliation, accelerating cell turnover and bringing new, fresh cells to the surface more quickly. Over time, results improve, and people see reductions in lines and wrinkles, signs of aging, and sun damage.

What are the Benefits of a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels can treat everything from acne scars and hyperpigmentation to deep signs of sun damage and aging. They can improve fine lines and wrinkles as well as dull, tired-looking skin. With a variety of intensities to suit your comfort level and your treatment needs, chemical peels make a great, customizable way to rejuvenate and exfoliate your skin.

How Long Does a Chemical Peel Take?

On average, our chemical peels take about 30 to 45 minutes. Some peels may last more or less time than this. The team will go over how long you can expect your peel to take during your consultation.

How Often Should You Get a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels come in three different levels of intensity, and the more intense the peel, the less often we recommend that you have one.

  • Light peels, with only mild exfoliation, can happen once every two to four weeks.
  • Medium peels, since they are more intense, can be scheduled for every three months.
  • Deep peels should happen no more than once per year since these peels can involve some downtime with scabbing and peeling as the skin heals.

How Much Does a Chemical Peel Cost?

On average, chemical peels cost about $150. However, estimating the cost of a chemical peel must take into account that every peel has different ingredients so that the price can vary widely.
