SPF #? – how to choose the right SPF
So you agree you need to wear it, you’ve found one that doesn’t feel greasy or make you break out – now how much SPF do you need? The FDA will not allow any sunscreen manufacturer to label SPF higher than 50 SPF because the curve of protection drops off after 30 SPF and anything higher is just confusing to the consumer. They must also label whether the product is protective against sunburn, cancer, photo-aging or all three.
The best guidelines are:
- chose an SPF that is AT LEAST 30
- apply and reapply often (every 80 minutes or so)
- apply an adequate amount (a shot glass full)
Protecting your skin from the sun is your number one beauty secret!
