How Do PRP Injections Work? 

One of the latest advancements in aesthetic dermatology is the use of PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma to rejuvenate the skin and stimulate hair growth. PRP is a high concentration of platelets surrounded in its own plasma. Because it is processed from your own blood, there is virtually no risk of allergy or rejection. The PRP contains fundamental protein growth factors that aid in healing, increasing blood flow, stimulating fibroblasts, repairing damaged tissues, and promoting collagen.

PRP can be incorporated into a number of treatments, depending on the desired results and needs of each patient.

• Injectable for the Face: PRP can be injected into the face (with or without hyaluronic acid fillers). Injections into the undereye area to improve the texture and revitalize the tissue is especially popular with our patients. 

• Topical and Microneedling: Microneedling with PRP is a treatment that is much in demand. When applied in aesthetic treatments, PRP results in the improvement of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars, while also increasing blood flow to improve skin color and repair epidermal and dermal cells to revitalize overall skin texture. We also recommend it for post ablative laser treatments to speed up healing. The addition of PRP takes these aesthetic treatments and your skin rejuvenation to the next level.

• Hair Restoration: When PRP is utilized for thinning hair or hair loss a higher concentration of platelets in the plasma is used. PRP stimulates new vessels and blood flow to the follicles while delivering valuable growth factors and nutrition to follicles and surrounding tissues. Stem cells work to reduce the miniaturization of the hair follicle, stimulate dormant hairs back into the growth stage and keep the hair in the androgen (hair growth) state longer.

At the Physician Skin Solutions office in North Phoenix, we begin by drawing one to two tubes of blood (about the same amount you would need for a typical blood test). The tubes are then spun in a centrifuge, to separate the plasma from the red and white blood cells. After your blood is drawn and the PRP is obtained and activated, we will continue with the selected treatment.

For microneedling and facial injections, we will use a topic anesthetic cream to numb the area, making it comfortable. We use a micro-cannula to administer our injections, meaning you won’t have to experience pain or discomfort during your session.
