How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling is a form of Collagen Induction Therapy which is intended to smooth wrinkles and fine lines, improve scarring and stretch marks while rejuvenating the overall appearance of your skin. At Physician Skin Solutions, microneedling is done by a licensed aesthetician, using a specialized microneedling pen to penetrate the dermis. This penetration simulates an injury to the skin and prompts the skin’s natural ability to heal itself.

The skin rejuvenation instrument used for microneedling has tiny needles to penetrate and “injure” the epidermis and dermis in a very safe and precise manner. The body’s response to an injury is to produce collagen and elastin (the foundation of healthy and youthful skin) and as the skin begins to heal you will see firmer, smoother, brighter, and more refreshed looking skin. The healing begins almost immediately so you will see results within a week or two and will continue to see improvement for up to 6 months.

These small holes or micro-channels in the skin also allow for better penetration of serums and the treatment is often combined with the topical application of PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to provide even more dramatic results.
