How Does Kybella Work?

Approved by the FDA in 2015, Kybella® can effectively reduce fat with a series of injections and is the only non-surgical treatment that can reduce submental fullness (double-chin).

Kybella is an injectable used to treat moderate to severe fat under the chin. It is made up of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in our bodies, which works to break down and absorb dietary fat.

Kybella breaks down unwanted fat under the skin, just as it breaks down dietary fat. Dr. Maltais injects a small amount of Kybella with a tiny needle under the chin and within a few minutes, the fat is targeted just where the Kybella was injected. Over time (a few weeks to months), the damaged fat cells are removed for good by normal body metabolism.
