How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Have you noticed your facial folds starting to become more prominent? Do your cheeks look a bit hollow, or you’ve discovered that the skin around your jawline isn’t as firm as it used to be?

If that’s the case, you may be a good candidate for dermal fillers!

Glendale Dermal Fillers

Why Dermal Fillers Are So Popular

These anti-aging injectables are an excellent choice for individuals who have moderate facial lines and folds, but aren’t ready or are a good candidate for a surgical solution (like a facelift). Dermal fillers can also be used to smooth out the appearance of undereye bags, create a more structured jawline, and even minimize the appearance of bulging veins on the hands (seriously!).

Interested in discovering dermal fillers for yourself, but want to know how long the results last? Let’s take a look:

Average Duration of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers – especially those that use hyaluronic acid (HA) to add facial volume – typically deliver results that can last anywhere from six months to eighteen months.

So why the huge range in the duration of results?

Well, it comes down to the actually dermal filler itself. Not all dermal fillers are created with the same HA formula. Some dermal fillers may contain more viscous gel, which is used to temporarily add volume to areas like the lips and around the mouth. Other fillers may have a thicker HA gel to treat subdermal tissue in the mid-facial region, like the cheeks.

The viscosity of the HA gel helps to deliver the most natural results. For example, if you used a dermal filler with a thick HA gel on your lips, your results will be unnaturally thick, “trouty” lips – and no one wants that! On the other hand, if you use a dermal filler meant for the lips on your cheeks, you likely won’t see any results at all, because the gel isn’t thick enough to lift this heavier dermal tissue.

As a general rule of thumb, dermal fillers meant for your lips and around your mouth typically last six to nine months, while dermal fillers for cheek augmentation can last anywhere from 12 to 18 months.
